Budapest Trams

Budapest has an extensive system of trams lines numbered between 1 and 69 with gaps due to line closings over the years.
The lines are standard gauge. Link to the
Budapest Public Transport English Site. Tatra T5C5 cars were built in what was then Czechoslovakia and are single-ended cars riding on 2 4-wheel trucks, they have seating for 28 and a top speed of 65 km/h, 40 mph. They are
powered by 4 electric motors having a combined rating of 180 kW, 240 hp and draw
600 volts from the overhead.
The rear unit of a pair of Tatra T5C5 is 4043 from the 1979-80 batch. It is seen at Moszkva tér near the Déli station on route 61 which runs from here to Móricz Zsigmond körtér and is scheduled to take15 minutes for the 11 stops. The imposing building behind is the "Postal Palace" built in 1925-6. |
