702 departs fro Rheinau tram terminus.

Mannheim has 7 tram routes numbered from 1 to 7. MVV (Mannheim transit) runs exclusively on routes 1, 2, 7 & 9 and shares traffic with VBL (Ludwigshafen) on routes 3, 4 & 6. Both companies run on metre gauge track. Line 5 is the OEG between Heidelberg & Ludwigshafen via Mannheim. As well route RHB (Rhein-Haardtbahn GmbH) runs from Mannheim to Bad Duerkheim.
MVV has 10 Bombardier RNV8 type trams numbered from 701-710 that were built in 2002 & 2003. They are single ended 8 axle low-floor cars.

Mannheim-Rheinau is the south-east terminus of line 1. MVV 702 departs from the loop on its way back to Schönau on Friday April 23rd, 2004.
