Dresden's tram system has a track gauge of 1450mm (about ½ inch wider than standard gauge) with 12 lines. Dresden has 95 of these modernized Tatra T4D trams in their fleet as well as a number of  new low floor units. The modernized Tatras are numbered 224201 to 224295 and were acquired between 1971 & 1984. The modernization occurred between 1993 & 1995. These cars seat 26 and have standing room for 88. It has 4 43 kW traction motors for a total rating of 172 kW, 230 hp and a top speed of 60 km/h, 37 mph.
This tram was built in 1977 by CKD Tatra in Prague as a T4D numbered 222 704-4. In April 1993 it was modernized to T4DMS and numbered 224 025-0  and then in December 1996 with the installation of a thyristor control it was re-classified to T4DMT and numbered 224 291-0.
