ÖBB Class 1142 were modified from class 1042 from 1995 onwards by the fitting of push-pull equipment, and raising the top speed. These are Bo-Bo locomotives rated at 4000 kW, 5360 hp and have a top speed of 150 km/h, 93 mph. They weigh 82.5 metric tonnes.
This loco was built by Simmering-Graz-Pauker in Floridsdorf (builder's number 18381) with electrical equipment from Elin. It entered service in September 1969 numbered 1042.540 and in July 1998 it was rebuilt to class 1142 and renumbered to 1142 540-2 . In December 2003 this locomotive was withdrawn from service.
